How to Become a Google Developer Groups (GDG) or GDSC Lead on Campus

I was never the guy who participated in hackathons or built complex tech projects for competitions. My true interest has always been administration, leadership, and creating real change on the ground level .     B ack when I started college, I saw a pattern—students focused on just technical skills , but very few worked on networking, leadership, and personal growth . Who I Really Am: Leader or Author?

A man who seeks to bring change in society


Through my eyes, I see a path defined by leadership, writing, and pursuit of wisdom. 


 


 I hide myself when it’s not necessary, I love to work in silence as I deeply believe in the saying:

“Always let your Actions Speak louder than your words.”

I am the sum total of the qualities of everyone whom I have met in my 20 years of life. Therefore, I am you or a part of your qualities or disqualified (if I have met you since childhood: to my beloved ones).

Before experiencing the world through my eyes, how do I see the world? I request you to look at the picture above and create a story about me. Do you think I am a shy person, or is it just a so-called pose for just a picture……

Umm, If I have to let you know what this picture depicts about me is as :

  1. The greenery behind is the symbol for being a natural person, it can also be seen as a natural bonding between me and ‘Gurugram University’ which has shaped my personality a lot.
  2. I am hiding my face and its visible that I have a beautiful smile on my covered face, it can be seen as I do not like much limelight while working towards my passion, I love to work in silence and, indeed, many of the students were not known that I truly exist in the university but the amazing thing was they were known about my name ‘Nitin Chauhan — President of Google Developer Group on campus club.’
  3. But this does not mean that I do not like to meet & greet others, as we know every picture has a person on the other side of the camera, and yes, it was my friend, who has played an important role in letting me see the world through many perspectives.

These are some points which you can predict just from one picture. This is how I see the world, but still there are so many exceptions (everything we see on social media might not always be true.

Early chapters: A glimpse of my life

From my school time, I was a good student, disciplined, always on the right path, I never hurt someone phycially but it does not mean that I never cheated ( ha ha talking about exams dude), I used to write on the exam board sometimes in mathematics exams for cheating in 5th or 6th std, i guess. But one day I got caught red-handed by my maths teacher, ‘or uss din jo pitaii huii, can’t forget the day’. After that day, I never cheated in an exam and I started focussing on maths and I made an interest in mathematics so much that I got 100/100 in maths in 10th Board Exams.

In 9th std, I got beaten up by my chairperson sir just bcz I removed chip (it had only 20 audio pieces of music) from my smart watch and gave kid to hide in his bag, because my friends used to take my watch for listening music on the last bench of the classroom even during class time. My intention was not bad, but the teacher did not listen to me and slapped me (this was the 2nd time I was beaten by the Maths teacher, our chairperson sir, besides, tbh he had played a very very important role in shaping me who I am?)

On the first day of our board exams, my classmates gathered to get blessings from our school teachers, but on the very first day, there was a madam who literally compared me with his nephew (who was my classmate by saying ‘kuch pdhta bhi hai ya nhii, ya cheating krke hi pass hoga’).

But I got the highest marks in our school. And what I did was I brought some sweets and went to the madam to let her know that I passed the boards.

Then I got admission in ‘Navodaya Vidayala’ but left it within a week, joined a private school.

Leadership: The Path of Responsibility and Impact

Based on my 12th std scores, I got admission into one of the most advanced courses — Artificial Intelligence — at a State Government University, Gurugram University. It didn’t just enhance my technical skills but also helped me grow as a person.

From being a quiet observer in my early college days to leading multiple student organizations, my journey has been nothing short of transformative. But leadership, as I see it, is never about power; it’s about responsibility, trust, and inspiring others to achieve more than they ever imagined.

I took the responsibility of Google Developer Groups (GDG) Gurugram University as the President, and my vision was clear — to create a space where students could grow, innovate, and support each other in the tech industry. Many students didn’t know me personally, but they knew my name. It wasn’t about recognition; it was about impact.

Later, I also led ByteBrigade CS Society, bringing together a community of like-minded students, helping them sharpen their technical and problem-solving skills.

But leadership is not just about holding positions. It is about standing up when things go wrong, taking the blame when necessary, and ensuring that the people around you feel heard and valued.

But leadership is not about titles — it’s about standing up when things go wrong, taking responsibility, and ensuring that the people around you feel valued. True leadership is about creating more leaders, not followers.

Writing: Crafting Stories That Inspire

Beyond leadership, another major part of my life is writing.

I have always been fascinated by storytelling, not just as a form of entertainment but as a medium to inspire, to make people think, and to ignite a spark within them. Writing is where I find clarity, where I express my deepest thoughts, and where I let my imagination run wild.

One of my proudest achievements is my book, Shadows of Trinetra: Trust No One, Expose the Truth, (for indians click on the book name otherwise click here)” a gripping tale of truth, conspiracy, and courage. The process of writing this book was challenging, but it taught me patience, discipline, and the art of weaving emotions into words.

Why do I write? Because words have power. They can build or destroy, heal or hurt, uplift or shatter. And I choose to write to make a difference.

Through my writing, I aim to tell stories that matter, stories that leave an impact on readers, and stories that challenge the way we see the world.



Wisdom and Life Lessons: What I Have Learned So Far

Life is the greatest teacher, and over the years, I have learned some important lessons that continue to shape me:

1. Your past does not define you.

We all make mistakes, face setbacks, and encounter failures. But it’s what we do next that matters. I may have cheated once in an exam, but that experience shaped my integrity for life.

2. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

I was underestimated by a teacher, compared to someone else, but I didn’t let those words define me. Instead, I worked hard, topped my school, and proved that effort and perseverance always pay off.

3. Be the kind of person who lifts others.

Success is not about how far you go alone, but how many people you bring along with you. I want to be a leader, a writer, and a mentor who helps others discover their potential.

4. Stay humble, keep learning.

No matter how much I achieve, I always remind myself — there’s still so much to learn, so many people to meet, and countless experiences to embrace. Learning never stops.

This is not the end — it’s just another chapter in my journey.

I will continue leading, writing, and inspiring others, always staying true to my principles of learning, working, and growing together. The road ahead is long, but I’m ready to walk it, step by step, with passion and purpose.
